Y strainer are usually installed at the inlet of pressure reducing valves, relief valves, constant water level valves, or other equipment to remove impurities from the medium and protect the normal use of valves and equipment.
The ASME B16.34 Y Strainer is a two way strainer that can filter the residues through a bidirectional flow. The strainers are also used in different applications such as water lines, oil transmission lines, petroleum, petrochemical, chemical, food processing, brewery and other applications that have to deal with impurities in the liquids. Mesh size for strainers is usually denominated in mm or microns however it can also be assigned a mesh number (which is number of holes per inch). A micron is one millionth of a meter.
